This is a photography tour, designed to photograph target species with a focus on quality over quantity.

Join us in southern Peru for an incredible photography adventure! Peru hosts an astounding number of species, and this tour explores a wide array of habitats from high elevation to Amazon rainforests. We will begin our tour high in the Andes mountains in the stunning historical city of Cusco and the center of the Inca Empire.

Our first days will explore the high Andes and Sacred Valley for birds including Black-backed Grosbeak, Blue-and-yellow Tanager and Black-throated Flowerpiercer. We will target hummingbird specialties such as Giant Hummingbird, Violet-throated Starfrontlet and the endemic Bearded Mountaineer. From here, we travel down the famous Manu Road into Manu National Park, stopping at various elevations and visiting a number of feeder set ups along the route. High elevation species include Red-crested Cotinga, Grass-green Tanager, Golden-collared Tanager, Hooded Mountain-Tanager, plus an opportunity at three antpittas: Leymebamba Antpitta, Urubamba Antpitta and Red-and-white Antpitta.

Mid-elevation provides us a whole new set of species at fantastic feeder set ups. Birds such as Versicolored Barbet, Rusty-naped Tanager, Golden Tanager, Golden-eared Tanager, Golden-collard Honeycreeper and hummingbirds including Long-tailed Sylph, Bronzy Inca, and Rufous-booted Racket-tail. As we head to low elevation more photo set ups await with another array of amazing tanagers.  Birds like Silver-beaked Tanager, Blue-necked Tanager, Turquoise Tanager, Green-and-gold Tanager, and Masked Tanager.

Our final location provides opportunities with some fascinating new species such as the beautiful Capped Heron and weirdly wonderful Hoatzin. We will visit a King Vulture photography hide which also hosts Black and Lesser Yellow-headed Vultures. We also have the unique opportunity to photograph incredibly difficult forest species such as Amazonian Antpitta, Undulated Tinamou, Goeldi’s Antbird, White-browed Antbird, White-lined Antbird and a Russet-crowned Crake. Night hikes could produce species such as Spectacled Owl, Tawny-bellied Screech- owl, Black-banded Owl, Scissor-tailed Nightjar and Silky-tailed Nightjar. Hummingbirds are plentiful, such as Sapphire-spangled Emerald, Golden-tailed Sapphire, the stunning Gould’s Jewelfront and Butterfly Coquette. And, a whole new compliment of birds visit the fruit feeders.  Species such as Lemon-throated Barbet, Turquoise Tanager, Yellow-bellied Dacnis, Masked Tanager, Green Honeycreeper, and Speckled Chachalaca.
We then make our way back to Cusco, stopping along the way to look for Paradise Tanager, Blue-banded Toucanet, and Amazonian Umbrellabird. You will surely return home with a lifetime of memories and a memory card full of incredible images!

After this main tour, you can extend your trip and join us at the magnificent Machu Picchu! This short extension allows you to visit this incredible historic site.
