This is a birding tour, designed to see as many bird species as possible, with special focus on specialty species.
On this exciting week-long tour, we’ll visit two of the most famous birding and wildlife observation areas in Central America, Rancho Naturalista and the San Gerardo de Dota Valley. In addition to an amazing list of birds, these areas will provide us with an opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife including mammals, butterflies, moths, reptiles, and amphibians!
Rancho Naturalista is one of the most well-known birding lodges in Central America and for good reason. Over 450 species have been recorded on their property including the beautiful Snowcap, a small purple hummingbird with a bright white cap. We will also bird some surrounding areas where we will add many waterbirds and other songbirds to the list.
From Rancho Naturalista we will head to the San Gerardo de Dota Valley to look for higher elevation species. The major highlight in this area is the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal! Other species that we may see include Black Guan, Dusky Nightjar, Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, Yellow-thighed Brushfinch, and Volcano Junco. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy some of the jewels in this beautiful country on this tour!
