On this exciting week-long tour, we’ll visit two of the most famous birding and wildlife observation areas in Central America, Turrialba and the San Gerardo de Dota Valley. In addition to an amazing list of birds, these areas will provide us with an opportunity to observe a wide variety of wildlife including mammals, butterflies, moths, reptiles, and amphibians!

The Turrialba Valley is one of the most well-known birding areas in Central America and for good reason. This area provides access to some of the best middle elevation forest on the Caribbean slope. Well over 500 species have been recorded in this valley including the beautiful Snowcap, a small purple hummingbird with a bright white cap. We will spend time birding at a variety of locations including Rancho Naturalista, the Tuis River Valley, Cerro El Silencio, and El Copal Reserve.

From the Turrialba Valley we will head to the San Gerardo de Dota Valley to look for higher elevation species. The major highlight in this area is the spectacular Resplendent Quetzal! Other species that we may see include Black Guan, Dusky Nightjar, Long-tailed Silky-flycatcher, Flame-throated Warbler, Yellow-thighed Brushfinch, Volcano Junco, and Golden-browed Chlorophonia. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy some of the jewels in this beautiful country on this tour!
