As we ascend into the Sierra Madre del Sur, we trade coastal heat for cool pine-oak forests and cloud forest vistas. Our time in Pluma de Oro and San José del Pacífico is rich with Mexican endemics, Red Warbler, Dwarf Jay, Gray-barred Wren, and Golden Vireo among them. We finish in Oaxaca City, where birding and cultural exploration go hand-in-hand. From the archaeological splendor of Monte Albán and Yagul to highland trails at La Cumbre Ixtepeji and Aranjuez, we target species like Aztec Thrush, Ocellated Thrasher, and Oaxaca Sparrow while also savoring the city’s famed cuisine and mezcal traditions.
