This is a birding tour, designed to see as many bird species as possible, with special focus on specialty species.

This tour takes you across a country that holds an incredible diversity of habitats in a relatively small area, making it one of the best places in Asia for birding and wildlife. From lowland rainforests to high mountain plateaus, from dry zone scrub to coastal wetlands, we’ll explore a wide variety of ecosystems, each with its own specialties. The highlight for birders is the impressive number of endemics found here, including Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, and Red-faced Malkoha.

Our journey begins in the forests of Kitulgala before moving into the cultural heart of the island, where elephants roam among ancient ruins. From there, we climb into the cool highlands around Nuwara Eliya to search for montane specialties like the Kashmir Flycatcher and Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush. A visit to Horton Plains offers sweeping vistas and a chance to encounter high-elevation species not found anywhere else.

We then make our way to the southern parks of Yala and Bundala, where birding blends seamlessly with wildlife safaris. Leopards and Sloth Bears are possible here, along with Greater Flamingos, Painted Storks, and a dazzling mix of raptors and wetland species. Finally, we end in Sinharaja, a UNESCO-listed rainforest that offers one of the world’s most spectacular birding experiences: the mixed-species bird wave. Here, we’ll target many of the island’s most sought-after endemics, with every step through the forest revealing new possibilities.

This trip is designed to showcase the country’s best birds while also taking in the unforgettable wildlife, scenery, and cultural richness along the way. With comfortable accommodations, expert guidance, and a carefully planned route, it is a journey that delivers both exceptional birding and an authentic glimpse into one of Asia’s most fascinating destinations.
