Located in the caldera of an enormous, ancient volcano, in the town of El Valle, Canopy Lodge provides excellent accommodation to accompany amazing birding. From Canopy Lodge, we will explore a variety of elevations on both the Caribbean and Pacific sides of Panama, resulting in a diverse species list.

In addition to the excellent birding at Canopy Lodge, many amazing birding locations are located all around El Valle. We’ll visit many of them in search of species such as Wedge-tailed Grass-finch, Spot-crowned Barbet, Black-crowned Antpitta, Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Spectacled Owl, Rosy Thrush-Tanager, Dusky-faced Tanager, and much more!

We’ll also head to lower elevations to look for a completely different set of birds from those that live in El Valle. In the Pacific dry forests, we’ll spend the day searching for highlight species such as Crested Bobwhite, Yellow-headed Caracara, Gray-lined and Short-tailed Hawks, Peregrine and Aplomado Falcons, White-tailed Kite, Veraguan Mango, Sapphire-throated Hummingbird, Straight-billed Woodcreeper, Red-breasted Blackbird, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Crested Oropendola, Lesser Yellow-headed Vulture, Crested Caracara, Gray-cowled Wood-Rail, Pale-eyed Pygmy-Tyrant, and a host of other terrific birds!

On the Caribbean slope, we’ll explore some not-as-well-birded sites, so who knows what might turn up! But highlights could include Sulphur-rumped Tanager, Spot-crowned Barbet, and Barred Puffbird.
