This is a birding tour, designed to see as many bird species as possible, with special focus on specialty species.
Join us on our 4th annual Friends of Holliday Park fundraising tour! We’ll be returning to Costa Rica to explore more of this remarkable country. Our base for this tour will be the wonderful Arenal Observatory Lodge. This lodge is an incredible birding site and is within a short drive of many other hotspots in the La Fortuna Area. While birding in this species rich area some of our highlights could include Great Currasow, many antbirds including the highly sought after Ocellated, Yellow-eared Toucanet, Bare-necked Umbrellabird, and Spectacled Owl.
From Arenal, we will also explore other hotspots a bit farther afield. Our day trips will take us to both La Selva Biological Station and Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge. These are both incredible birding spots that will add greatly to our species list. Highlights during these days could include Snowy Cotinga, Purple-throated Fruitcrow, Great Green Macaw, American Pygmy-Kingfisher, Black-collared Hawk, Sungrebe, and Agami Heron.
Being based out of Arenal Observatory Lodge will allow us to take a bit of a relaxed pace for this tour as we explore all of these wonderful areas.
